Fact vs Myth: Vapes

Fact vs Myth: Vapes
One of the most frequent questions I get is always about vaping, and—let’s be honest—it’s often coming from teens. Parents, this is your reminder to check in on your kids. Let’s clear up a few common vape-related questions that seem to pop up all the time.
You Can Take a Vape Through TSA?
Fact! TSA allows vapes in carry-ons only. Never place a vape in your carry-on luggage, as it’s not allowed. Although TSA has a clause that each lithium ion battery must not exceed a Watt-hour (Wh) rating of 100 Wh; or for lithium metal batteries, a lithium content of 2 grams. Officers most likely will not check this as they are not trained to analyze this.
You Can Vape on a Plane?
Myth! Some passengers think that since TSA allows vapes in carry-ons, it means they can use them during the flight—this is completely false. Vaping on a plane is against FAA regulations and can result in serious penalties if caught. If you need to vape, head to a designated smoking area, as most airports provide these spaces for travelers.
What If My Vape Contains THC?
Tricky! TSA officers aren’t actively looking for marijuana or similar substances. Based on my experience, if it’s inside your vape, you’ll probably get through, but keep in mind it’s still not allowed. Only products with 0.3% THC or less by dry weight are permitted.
My Vape Must Be Concealed.
Myth! Honestly, no one’s concerned about your vape. TSA officers just want to make sure it’s packed correctly to prevent any issues, like a fire in your bag. In fact, you can even keep it in your hand if you prefer.
