Should I Pick TSA PreCheck, Global Entry, or CLEAR?

Happy Friday. I know many of you are wondering what the latest tariff announcements mean for the future of travel. It’s a valid concern—and while I don’t think we’ll feel an immediate shock, the ripple effects are likely to show up over time.

We’re already seeing a softening in airline bookings, especially for international travel, according to recent data from major U.S. carriers. This trend could continue as economic uncertainty and price hikes on imported goods affect consumer confidence.

Airfare could drop during off-peak weeks as airlines try to fill more empty seats.
But during peak travel periods—think holidays, major events, or summer—expect higher-than-usual prices, as airlines aim to recoup revenue lost during slower weeks.

If you’re planning to travel this year and don’t have your seats locked in yet, now’s the time to start looking. Booking early gives you more flexibility, better prices, and less stress if demand suddenly spikes.

Should I Pick TSA PreCheck, Global Entry, or CLEAR?

This is one of the most common questions I get—and understandably so. These services sound similar but offer different benefits, and choosing the wrong one can cost you both time and money.

Today, I’ll break down which one is worth applying for if you can only afford one, and how to actually enjoy the benefits of all three without breaking the bank.

💸 On a Budget? Go for Global Entry

If you're only choosing one, Global Entry gives you the most value. Yes, it's $120—but that includes TSA PreCheck, and it covers you for five years. That breaks down to just $24/year for faster international AND domestic security screening. It's a win-win.

🌎 Not Leaving the U.S.? Choose TSA PreCheck

If international travel isn’t on your radar, TSA PreCheck is the better pick. It’s $77 for five years and gets you access to the faster security lane at over 200 U.S. airports.

🧬 So What’s the Deal With CLEAR?

CLEAR is like the VIP line at a club—it’s nice, but not essential. It speeds up the identity verification process (you still go through TSA after), and it comes with a $189/year price tag.

But here’s the trick: you rarely have to pay full price. There are so many loopholes in how you can use this service for free, which I’ve shared in a previous newsletter.
