Currently, this is all we know about the seating enhancements and perks. There's no information yet on how this will impact pricing, but I anticipate a significant change to the current structure. Spirit Airlines is likely aware of their delicate position—they can't price too high, or travelers will opt for carriers known for their quality service. I believe Spirit aims to fill a void in the airline industry by offering premium options at a reasonable price. No airline has successfully hit this target yet, and I'm eager to see if Spirit can pull it off.
Harmony Tip of The Week
Did you know that every airline has a cap on how much they can offer you if you're bumped from a flight? I recently spoke with a gate agent who has worked with three different airlines, all of which had such a cap. For example, Delta Airlines used to have a cap of $10,000 but has since reduced it to $3,500.
If you find yourself in an oversold situation and your travel plans are flexible, always take the compensation! And when I say take the money, aim for the highest amount possible—never accept the first offer. The gate agent also mentioned that even if there's a cap, airlines will often agree to higher amounts if they really need volunteers. Basically, name your price!
Additionally, while airlines usually offer compensation as travel credits, you can request a gift card instead, which can be used anywhere.
