Something big is changing at Gate Access

To my readers and supporters, today’s edition of Gate Access will be its last free release.
Let me explain.
I started Gate Access in March of 2022 and began releasing this newsletter in October of 2023.
Since then, I’ve broken multiple stories that sent shock waves across the media landscape, appeared on major television platforms, and have been a frequent resource for prestigious publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Travel & Leisure.
My work has garnered quite an audience; thousands of travelers read Gate Access weekly.
To put it simply, I’m proud of the work I have done.
But here’s the thing: travelers aren’t the only ones reading this newsletter. Senior government officials and senior airline executives at the agencies and airlines I cover are also reading.
This isn’t news to me; I knew they were reading.
I can see their names and have always viewed it as a flex. However, due to a recent nudge I received from someone I respect in the industry, I’m no longer comfortable sharing certain stories under the current Gate Access framework.
Gate Access is no longer just the passion project I started in 2022. It has become a credible media source with invaluable access to active and former frontline airline and government workers in the aviation industry, which means it needs fundamental safeguards to protect it.
The President wants all federal workers to sign NDAs. I’m not claiming to be the reason for that sudden push; however, it’s clearly a move to discourage workers from speaking to the media.
As you know, I believe the best information will always come from the folks who are doing the work, not from press releases. Gate Access will remain what it has always been, a safe place where aviation workers can speak freely, sharing insights travelers rarely hear.
And just to be clear, I haven’t been silenced, nor will I be. But to continue this level of quality reporting, Gate Access must switch to a paid model to fund the investigative work this audience deserves.
